A Big Trip for a Big WeekMost of this week centered around our meet in Willow Springs. Photos of the meet here, and a recap will be out tomorrow. We did get in some fun games at our neural day, our second pasta dinner, and even a round of dodgeball today. The Week AheadMonday 9/15 (3:45-5:45PM): Long run at St. Rose of Lima. It will likely be hot, so please make sure to hydrate. Tuesday 9/16 (3:30-5:00PM): Recovery Run at Course. We will also meet in Mr. McLain's classroom at 6pm to have a team dinner before watching the girls volleyball game. Wednesday 9/17 (3:30-4:45PM): Pre-Race Workout at Course. This will be followed by our middle school meet that will be worked by our athletes. Thursday 9/18 (3:30-5:45PM): Race pace workout at course. Friday 9/19 (7:00-8:30AM): Fun Day/Recover Run at City Park Saturday 9/20 (On Own): Easy Run and Strides. District AssignmentsThe state released class and district assignments this morning. Both are boys and girls will run in Class 1 District 1 this year. You can see the complete lists of teams below. As mentioned earlier in the year, the state is running Class 1 district meets at a separate site from Class 2 and 3 this year. That means our district meet will be at Oak Ridge on November 1. At this point no details have been released regarding race times. I will add those to the Google Calendar as soon as they are available. This announcement did also determine race times at State. Both boys and girls will run on November 8, with the boys race at 9:00AM and the girls race at 9:45AM. Plan for Next Three MeetsWe get a small break before our next meets. This is important not only to allow athletes to recover but to fit in some tougher workouts that can build fitness but would generate too much fatigue the week of a race. But after that we have three meets on the calendar in 10 days. That's too much racing for the distances we run, especially for athletes likely to have one or more postseason races. To navigate this stretch, we will be running split squad during the next three meets at Fox, Perryville, and Notre Dame. Everyone will run two of the three races, but for most athletes that will be it. Athletes will still attend the meets they aren't racing. They will do a long run at that site and then cheer on the rest of the team. The current plan for runners by meet is as follows: Course MowersAs some of you know, we continue to use the front loop of our course for practice during the remainder of the season. That means we still need individuals to keep that part of the course mowed. We would like to have a rotation of mowers to lighten the load on any one person. If you would like to help with this, please contact Mr. McLain. Middle School MeetOur middle school meet is this Wednesday, 9/17. This meet is a great opportunity to see young runners in their first taste of the sport. It will also serve as a fundraiser for our team. Professional timing made things so much smoother and easier at our meet, including for our parents and other workers. But it also came at the cost of $1300. The revenue from the middle school meet will help offset these costs. For this reason, it is important that we have lots of help. We will be timing the middle school meet ourselves like we have done previously for the high school races. Our athletes will be working most of the positions that parents typically cover during the high school races. This is a great opportunity for our athletes to learn to give back to the sport. We could still use side-by-sides to serve as the rabbit/tortoise if parents are willing to drive and/or let their child do this. If any parents would like to help in this capacity or another, please reach out to Mr. McLain. Fox Meet Gear TransportationTypically our team has the big bus for meets, which allows plenty of room for athletes, coaches, our team tent, and drinks/snacks. However, for the Fox Meet we will be taking the small bus. With 16 runners, there won't be a ton of additional space. If anyone with a pickup truck or SUV is planning to attend the meet and would be willing to drive up early with the team to bring the tent/coolers, please contact Mr. McLain. Pasta DinnersAt this point we still have one dinner (10/29) that needs a second family to help. If you have not already signed up to help with a dinner, please consider doing so. Given the size of our team, we really need every family to step up to help with a pasta dinner. These are some of the best memories for runners in our program. We want to be able to continue to offer these opportunities to our athletes, but that is dependent on parents helping out.
If you can help with the remaining dinner, you may sign up using this link or contact Mr. McLain. Comments are closed.
