The Last Week of the Season
Our final week of the season featured one last race-pace workout, a conclusion to our pickleball tournament (won by Carter and Reagan), and of course our trip to the State Meet. Here are links to photos and a complete recap of the races, but enjoy some other pictures from the trip and the week!
Uniforms
Uniforms should be cleaned, placed in a bag (Walmart/Roziers is fine) with the athlete's name on it, and returned to Mr. McLain by Friday December 12. Failure to do so will result in the office charging families the cost of a uniform ($120).
End of Season Team Dinner
Each year we hold a end-of-season Christmas family potluck dinner. This is one last opportunity for our team to gather. Gag gifts are presented to all athletes by coaches, real gifts are given to seniors by the rest of the team, and everyone shares photos, memories, and a good time. This is open to athletes, parents, and siblings.
This year the Nations have once again graciously agreed to host the dinner at their place (800 Allen Landings Road). Sundays have historically avoided the most conflicts, and in looking at the calendar, November 23 looked better than the other options. We will plan to begin eating at 6pm. Drinks (water, soda, Powerade, and Body Armor) will be provided, as will plates and utensils. You may use the link below to RSVP and list the food item(s) you plan to bring. Snocker Closing Soon
The Snocker will remain open until Thanksgiving Break. Any Snocker Dollars must either be spent before then or kept until next year.
Winter Training
With the season over, the state largely restricts the ability of our coaches to have much of a role in athlete training until summer begins. The general advice is that unless an athlete plans to participate in one of the postseason race series from Nike, New Balance, or Brooks, they should take one week off without running. They can still be active in other ways but should try to take it easy and do/enjoy the things they had less time for during the season.
The next athletes could do an easy run every other day (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) with 2-3 15 second bursts at 5K effort thrown into the second half of that and the standard 8 ABCs afterwards. The other days should just be active recovery that doesn't involve running. The third week athletes could resume regular training. In general it should somewhat imitate summer training. Weather will likely be an issue at some point, and you might need to adjust the schedule. Just be careful not to stack hard days too close to each other, and when in doubt do less. For those playing basketball, I wouldn't do much additional running. If there’s a weekend with no games or practices, athletes could do a long run, but only with the knowledge and blessing of basketball coaches. Comments are closed.
